Glitter for the Fourth!

06222012c

My in-laws have an annual 4th of July party at their home. For this years invitation I used this quilt block pattern I found on line.
quilt2
If you notice in the pattern it is a combination of squares and triangles.  To keep it simple I used a 4.25” square piece of Night of Navy cardstock (#100867) as the background and blue parts and embossed it with the Stripes Embossing Folder(#123128).  I then cut 12” x 1” strips of the Red(#121790) and Silver(124005) Glimmer paper and then cut them down into 1” squares. I hand cut the squares in half to make the triangles I needed.

It then became a process of piecing it together. I started at one corner and worked my way around and then into the center. I followed the same process as seen in this earlier post. Tombow(#110755) Liquid Glue was my adhesive of choice.

Once I had my design done, I trimmed it down to make it square. Each block was never completely square so I trimmed them down to about a 4” square. Also the centers often didn’t always meet perfectly so I used Brights Glimmer Brads(#121006) or one of the Itty Bitty Shapes(#118309) punched out with Red Glimmer Paper to hide my efforts.

Each square was attached to a 4.5” square card base with the invitation information inside.

I can’t tell how excited I was to use my new Simply Scored Diagonal Plate(#125586) to make an envelope that fit PERFECTLY!  It is my new “BFF”.
I purposely left the sentiment off.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project.  Thanks for stopping by. Leave a comment if you have a moment. I always enjoy hearing what the readers think.

God Bless,

A Greenhouse Gala Event!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I don't know if my daughter's class has caught any leprechauns yet but, I will keep you posted. We are celebrating St. Patrick's Day with corn beef & cabbage this evening even though we are not Irish. I found a crock pot recipe that uses orange juice to cook it in. I have no idea what to expect but, I know dinner is cooking and that makes my day!

The women of our church are going on a retreat in April. We wanted them to feel treasured and anticipate this time they would be spending with the Lord & other women. I was thrilled to be the one to create the card to begin building the excitement.

Greenhouse Gala Designer Series paper was my paper of choice but after seeing the new Paisley Petals Designer Series paper I was torn between the two. Paisley Petals along with a new stamp set, Four Frames, will be in the new 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog coming out in July but, it will also be available for purchase beginning April 1 as a special promotion. Details to follow on April 1!

Greenhouse Gala Designer Series paper, Friends Never Fade, and Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder were a perfect card combination along with Whisper White, Pear Pizzazz, and Baja Breeze color palette. The sentiment is from my computer using the "labels" option in Word.

It's a Wintry Holiday Hop!

Welcome to the November Pals Hop! This month we're featuring winter and holiday themed projects for you inspiration. If you've hopped over from Mary Fish's StampinPretty.com, I'm stop number 6 on the Pals Hop and am happy you've stopped by! If you get lost, just click on any of the links in the Pals line up here!

My first project is name tags for your Christmas dinner table! I designed one with adults in mind and one for the children at your table.

The adult place card is a piece 5"x5" Real Red card stock scored at 2 1/2". I embossed one of the ornaments from the Delightful Decorations stamp set in Silver Stampin' Embossing powder. I then used the Snow Swirled stamp set for the back ground image inking it in VersaMark and dotting the centers with the Basic Rhinestone Jewels. The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes inked in Real Red ink onto Very Vanilla Card stock and layered over a piece of Garden Green card stock.

The place card for children is a piece of 3"x 8 1/2" piece of Real Red card stock, scored at 4 1/4". I embossed the ornament image from the Sweet Treat stamp set in Silver Stampin' Embossing powder and repeated the background image, Snow Swirled, with the Basic Rhinestone Jewels in the centers.

The back of the Sweet Treat cup was covered with a scallop circle punched from the 2 3/8" Scallop Circle punch and scored down the middle with the perforating tool in the Cutter Kit.

My second project was created for my in laws annual Christmas party. Invitations often get lost in the pile but here is one that won't. Try making an easel card for your invitation. You can find the instructions here. It can stay standing until the party and becomes as much of a decoration as an invitation.

I first saw a card similar to this created by SU demonstrator, Kristina Kornoely. I love the wintry look of this card. I punched a 1 1/4" circle out of a piece of card stock and used the card stock as my stencil sponging Whisper White Craft ink over the hole to create the winter moon. I then stamped the image from Lovely as a Tree using Whisper White Craft ink again and sponged the bottom of the card giving it a snow covered ground. The sentiment is from Heard From the Heart stamp set. To keep it from looking too stark and yet not to light, I embossed it using a mixture of White and Silver Stampin' Emboss powders. To finish the scene, I spritzed Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz over the whole piece.

I broke the invitation up so that the date, time and place of the party would always be visible and the details would be underneath. By splitting the two parts of the invitation, I created a slot for the card to slip into creating a sturdy easel card!
And that cute little snowflake is from the new Northern Frost Decorative Strip for the Big Shot. Making snowflakes has become a snap!

I hope you enjoyed today's projects. I always love reading your comments and would love you to leave one before you "hop" on! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Stampin'Up! Tropical Party for End of Summer Luau

In our county it's time to get ready for school. Public school starts August 9th but, it still feels like summer. To help make the transition from summer to school a bit easier, why not host an End Of Summer/Back to School Luau. Make sure to include some of those school friends your child hasn't seen all summer. As the luau moves indoors make sure to plan a Stampin'Up! craft that they can use for school. Get the excitement mounting!

My August newsletter is all about Back-to-School. Make sure to sign up in the left side bar. I'm putting the finishing touches on it and hope to have it out tomorrow or Wednesday.

Today's project is an invitation for my daughter, Michele using today's Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I combined the Island Oasis Designer Series paper with the coordinating colors, Old Olive, Rose Red, Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie, and So Saffron. The invitation was done using My Digital Studio.

The waves were sketched out and cut using my favorite Stampin'Up! tool, the Paper Snips. I also used them to paper piece the coconut drink together. The flower was punched using the Fancy Flower Extra Large punch, and the leaves from the Island Floral Bigz Die. And... the border strip across the middle is from the new Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border. This is the first time I've used it and I LOVE it! It is so simple and clean to use!

See the recipe below for the supplies I used. There's still a lot of summer left for many of you! If you'd like to put together your own luau invitations contact me. I'm happy to help you put your order together. If you have any questions regarding today's project don't hesitate to contact me.

Have a great day!

God Bless,

Sweet Centers for Baby!

Sweet Centers Baby Invitation

Next week my daughter is hosting a baby shower for her cousin, shhhh it's a surprise. We created the invitations using the Sweet Centers stamp set. They are adorable!

The colors we combined were Pretty in Pink, Pink Passion (which is retiring the end of June), Chocolate Chip, and Whisper White. To make it easier to create the rattle, we punched the circle first and then stamped the rattle handle on another piece of Whisper White card stock. We then cut the rattle out and adhered it under the Sweet Treat cup with Stampin' Dimensionals. In the Sweet Treat cup we mixed M&M's with punches from the Itty Bitty Shapes punch pack.

Using the assembly line method we were able to turn out these in no time at all!

Hope you enjoyed today's project. Have a great weekend!
