Fun Quilting Projects

Now this is a lot of red, white and blue! My youngest daughter, Michele, learned to quilt making this with her Aunt Margaret recently. It will be going to a wounded serviceman through a quilting project my sister participated in when it's finished. Margaret had Michele lay out her pattern and sew the blocks together. It's beautiful! I am totally flabbergasted at how neatly all the pieces and corners lined up! My girls can sew and I can't!

Since I'm not much of a seamstress beyond repair and buttons, I did a bit of my own quilting; paper quilting that is. This card was inspired from a card by Ann Schach. The star pattern was made out of 1" squares adhered to a 4x4" piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock and embossed using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder. The 4th of July sentiment was printed out on my computer. The hardest part of this card was getting everything lined up. Please visit my instructions on an easy way I found to do this.

I can't help you much with quilt questions but feel free to contact me with any questions you have on paper quilting.

Hope your Sunday is great!
God Bless,

The Pen Pals Continue

My daughters are continuing the pen pal sharing. This card was sent from my eldest, Rachel, to Michele. The outside is a clean and simple layout using Circle Circus and Three Little Words. Michele was excited to finally get it but, when she opened the card up she gave a squeal of delight to see this bouquet of flowers!

Rachel saw the idea on line but didn't remember where. She made the flowers out of copy paper and colored the insides. Each flower is attached to the others and folded in such a way that they all pop right out of the card when you open it up. It is an adorable design! I will try and locate the instruction link and post it in the comments.

Happy Easter!

Kids & Cards ~ Introducing Michele

Today's challenge at Pals Paper Arts is a technique challenge using punches.
It just so happened my 9 year old, Michele, wanted to make a card yesterday for her sister in college. Yesterday's post featured Rachel's card to her.
Michele saw a card in an old Stampin'Up! magazine, Stampin' Success by Jackie Topa (June 2010). This card is cased from Jackie's and was created by Michele.
I remember the early days of our homeschooling. The three older ones learned writing by copying parts of some great writers' works. I think the same can be said here. Children can learn card making skills by copying other's cards. (This is true for me too. I am proud to be a "Creative Copier"!)
  • Michele looked through magazines and found the project she wanted to create.
  • We looked at it together and decided how it was made
  • We located all her supplies
  • I used the Tabletop Paper Cutter
  • Michele did the rest; stamping, sponging, laying it out, gluing it down, & adding the details
  • I answered questions and made a few suggestions
As she worked on her card she began to make changes like putting a palm tree in the window for a backgound. I showed her how to mask it. I had her use Dotto so she could pull things up if she needed to. It worked great and alleviated much frustration.

Before Sale-a-bration ends tonight, think about putting together your own card making kit for your family. Summer is rapidly approaching! Contact me if you need help putting your supplies together. For every $50 you spend in product you will receive a FREE item from the Sale-a-bration catalog. Click here for details. Order on-line any time today and before 11:50MT this evening.

I hope you enjoyed today's project. Both girls would love to read your comments so, please leave one before you go! Have a great day!

3 Things to Do Before Sale-a-bration Ends!

It has been a busy week with not a lot of time to create so I thought I would share a project by my daughter, Rachel. Michele was thrilled to find this card in the mailbox today. They've decided to become penpals so Michele spent the afternoon making her own card which will be featured tomorrow.

Rachel enjoys card making as a hobby to relax from college classes. I love her creation. I don't think she has any punches so I'm assuming she cut everything out by hand with her Paper Snips. The sentiment is from a great set called FYI.

Tomorrow is the last day to take advantage of the Sale-a-bration promotion so here are 3 things to do before it's over:
  1. Check your supplies and see if you need to replenish anything
  2. Look at your calendar and see if you have any upcoming occasions or holidays you need cards or gifts for
  3. Contact me if you are ready to place your order or order on-line at my website.
That's all for today! You will have until 11;50pm MT tomorrow night to place an online order. Have a great evening.

God Bless,

You're a Gem!

These cards were cased from a card by Mary Fish. I love the clean, simple look of this card.
The sentiment is from You're a Gem stamp set. Everyone of the sentiments will fit perfectly in the 1 3/8" Circle punch. This set is available in the Occasions Mini catalog through April 30.
I used the In Colors for all three cards; Peach Parfait, Concord Crush, and Blushing Bride.
The beauty of Stampin'Up! is the card stock matches the ink which matches the ribbon. Stampin'Up! takes the frustration out of card making.

I had to share this picture! My youngest is on Spring Break right now. One of her oldest and dearest friends came over. As you can tell from all the food wrappings on the floor, we were having a junk food fest! For Michele a good friend, favorite junk food, movies & video games has the makings of a perfect day!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed today's projects. I attended Stampin'Up!s Regional Conference this weekend and will be sharing some projects and ideas from this event later in the week. Hope you can stop back!

Off to State Cross Country

I'm leaving this afternoon for my son's 4A State Cross Country meet. This is the best running picture I have of him. I get so excited when he runs I can't take pictures. Last week I got pictures of his chest, his shoe, the sky but, not him! I'm handing the camera off to my husband this week!

Just a reminder, this Sunday is "For a Great Cause" class from 2pm-4pm at my home. We will be stamping on candles, making a holiday card and a Sprakly & Bright Treat container. The cost is 1 bag of groceries for the Sharing Center or $10 to be donated to the Sharing Center. Visit www.Sharingcenter.org for a list of needed items. Also bring your pillar candle. A white or off white candle will be the best color to start with.

Contact me if you have any questions.

See you next week!

Inspiration Sunday

If you have girls, you have to listen to this song, “More Beautiful You” by Jonny Diaz. When I heard this song, I knew I had to send a copy to my daughter in college. The theme of the song is there can never be a more beautiful you. Our daughters and granddaughters and even ourselves are told by the world that we need to be more beautiful ~ its everywhere. But we can’t be more beautiful than the way we were created! The song is soooo much better than my explanation.
Instead of sending it in a bland cover, I created a CD cover to go with it. Here is the tutorial for the CD cover which is very easy. I paired Eastern Blooms stamp set and Kaleidoscope DSP to create her gift; topping it off with Dazzling Diamonds and Ice Circle Rhinestone Brads.
The back side I left with a pocket for a note but you could decorate the entire side making it the front.
Homemade CDs and DVDs make great gifts and now you have a great way to wrap it up into a uniquely you gift!

Remember Tuesday starts Wrapping 101! Stop back and see what treats I'm wrapping!

God Bless,

Hope Happens: Mojo Friday & Limited Supplies Challenge

My college students are almost where they are suppose to be for the year! whew!! I haven't created much this week and had a couple hours all my own!! This card combined 2 challenges, MojoFriday (Mojo Monday turns 100 this week! so they are posting a different challenge daily, check it out) and Splitcoast Friday Challenge ~ Limited Supplies (this week was to make a masculine card, ie no bling, ribbon, or flowers).

I chose my card to surround a sentiment from the stamp set Hope Happens ~ "It Takes Courage to grow up and become who you really are" . Do I hear an AMEN!! Boy does this sentiment speak to all ages. This specific card is headed to a young man who just left for college; first time away from home; and I'm sure it will be an adjustment. My encouragement to him is to be who he was created to be and find contentment in that. Gosh, aren't we all guilty of not being true to who we are though. I know I am. There are a couple of demonstrators I really admire and respect and find myself thinking, if I could just be like..... Well, I am only a poor imitation of these other demos but definately a One Of A Kind if I'm ME! Enough of Martha's philosophy, but I just love this sentiment!

To create this card see the recipe below and if you need Stampin'Up! supplies contact me or order on-line. Also remember you have 10 days left to sign up as a Stampin'Up! demonstrator for just $85. This really is an awesome opportunity!! I'd love to talk to you about joining my team.
God Bless,

Jason Anthony, The Chalk Guy

"The decisions we make in life echo in eternity"

I've challenged myself to post every day for a month. I'm halfway there. Today I was lacking a project to post. After some thought, I decided since it was Sunday I would post something I find inspirational. This picture was done by a friend of ours, Jason Anthony - the chalk guy. He is an awesome, Godly man who wants to make a difference in this often dark world. I wish you could hear his entire presentation. Instead I hope you will enjoy the short video clips he does have on his website.

Stampin'Up! Pocket Silhouettes and Divine Design

This is one of the projects we will be making tomorrow at Divine Design. The class is from 10am-12noon at my home. Contace me by the end of the day with questions or to RSVP. Cost is $8.00.

I used a faux silk technique to create this card and it was soooo fun! I will try and post directions for this technique this week. The colors I used were from the Tuesday Color Challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers. I was a little nervous when I heard that the colors were Not Quite Navy, Really Rust, and Pretty in Pink. Those last two colors had me shaking my head for a bit. But I love how it turned out and more than that it was fun.

Stampin'Up!s colors are so beautiful that you can't go wrong with most any color combination.

I used the stamp set, Pocket Silhouettes, which is, again, one of my favorites. I guess I have a lot of favorite Stampin'Up! sets. If you would like to create your own cards using this stamp set and these colors see the recipe below.

God Bless,

Recipe:
Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes (#111672)
Ink: Not Quite Navy (#103008)
Paper: Not Quite Navy (#101722), Really Rust (#100661), Pretty in Pink (#100459), Whisper White (#100730)
Misc: Stampin' Dimensionals (#104430), Button Bouquet (retired), Write Me a Memory Journaling Cd (retired)

National Letter Writing Week

Did you know it was National Letter Writing Week this week? Neither did I.
While studying the January holidays, my 7 year old daughter and I discovered this little known fact. In honor of this special week we made cards and wrote notes to my eldest daughter who just transferred to UCF to finish her BS degree.
Michele loved the new "Love You Much" stamp set and created her card above using the heart stamps and rhinestone brads. She did a great job coloring the big heart using Stampin' Write Markers before stamping it on whisper white.
I used the "Loads of Love" stamp set on water color paper and colored it in with water color pencils and Aquapainter. The card stock is glorious green and the ribbon is Double-Stitched Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon. Michele and I had great fun creating these cards. We did find out when we went to mail the cards that because of the brads we should have them hand canceled to protect the cards and envelopes from tearing. Hmm, I wonder how many of my cards have arrived torn? Sorry, if you received one of those.
This young lady is the receiver of the cards, Rachel!
We miss you Rachel! You are in our thoughts and prayers and we're excited to see what God has in store for your future.
To all of you, Happy National Letter Writing Week. Send someone a card!
God Bless,
Martha
